Known also as Lord of the Forces of Life and ruled by Jupiter, planet of luck, expansion and opportunity, the Wheel of Fortune brings new beginnings, breakthroughs and a change of fortune.
This card is presided over by the Three Fates of Greek mythology, who held the fate of all in their hands.
As with so much of the symbolism of the Tarot, The Wheel of Fortune refers the cycles of life, the turning of the wheel, where we always hope to be riding high at the top and yet the reality is that we must complete continuous cycles in our journey through life.
Fortune is often experienced as good or bad, and yet the constant is the centre point, the hub, which is where the real action is directed. When you can put yourself at the centre (another symbol of the Self that transcends ego) then you will realise that you control your life. But if you don't think you can take the reins or drive the action from the hub, then you will always be at the mercy of a fickle fate who turns the wheel for you but without regard to your wishes or wellbeing.
This card turns up for you now to let you know that you can experience a change in your circumstances because you are open to it. Opportunities will present themselves for you to expand your horizons and your luck, but you need to put yourself at the centre of the wheel and take action towards your luck - after all, Fortune favours the brave!
Where do you see yourself on the Wheel?
“I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.”
― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
